A great place to start is Penny Rock Wood, where you’ll find plenty of opportunities for intimate (and wider) woodland shots. From there, you can do a full circuit of Rydal Water. Be sure to check out the little lone tree on the northern shore of Rydal Water, which you can find HERE. On the southern side, Rydal Cave (HERE) is worth a visit. It’s often busy and a bit tricky to photograph, but still a stunning feature to explore. Grasmere’s southern shores, which you can find HERE, are another great spot for photography, offering views back towards Helm Crag and Allan Bank, where Wordsworth once lived.

If you’re up for a hike, Helm Crag is well worth the effort. This iconic fell, with its famous Lion and the Lamb rocks, offers incredible views over Grasmere village and the lake. You can start the hike from Grasmere village by heading up through past the Lancrigg Hotel. You can shoot with a mid-zoom lens to capture variety or use a wide-angle for the larger landscape. This whole area has so much to offer. With its mix of lakes, woodland, and mountains, Rydal Water and Grasmere are perfect for anyone looking to capture some variety whilst in the Lake District.
