The Nikon 14-30mm lens – always ready for a landscape adventure!

My Favourite Wide-Angle Lens

Capturing some foreground interest in South Wales.

Choosing the right lens can make a huge difference in landscape photography.

Over the years, I’ve tried out various lenses, but the Nikon 14-30mm f/4 S has become a firm favourite.

On this adventure along the cliffs of Pembrokeshire, South Wales, I decided to use the 14-30mm to see how it handled the dramatic scenery.

Spoiler: it didn’t disappoint!

Here’s why I think this lens is a top choice for landscape photographers.

Fantastic Image Quality and Sharpness

Shot at 14mm. I have always been so happy with the image quality from this lens.

The Nikon 14-30mm lens delivers impressive sharpness, even at 14mm. During my shoot in Pembrokeshire, the lens captured every texture and wave with clarity.

The advanced coatings did a great job reducing flare, especially when shooting towards the sun during golden hour.

This lens produces images that are true to life, with natural colours and contrast.

The result is photos that need minimal editing, making it a reliable tool for capturing the scene as it is.

Lightweight and Portable Design

Capturing the vast beauty of Pembrokeshire without being bogged down by a heavy wide angle lens!

One of the standout features of the Nikon 14-30mm f/4 S lens is its lightweight design.

At just 485 grams (1.07lbs), it’s easy to carry, making it ideal for landscape photographers who are often on the move.

On my trip to Pembrokeshire, I found the lens’ lightness made it easy to keep up with the changing scenes.

Portability is key when you’re out in the field for long periods.

This lens balances well on a range of camera bodies (including my Nikon Z7), making it comfortable to shoot handheld and perfect for any landscape photography adventure.

Perfect for Capturing Dramatic Landscapes

The Nikon 14-30mm lens excels at capturing dramatic landscapes.

The wide-angle range allowed me to capture the vastness of the cliffs and the power of the crashing waves during my trip to Pembrokeshire.

This lens encouraged me to think more creatively about my compositions, incorporating more of the foreground to add depth and dimension to my images.

The 14-30mm lens also captured subtle changes in light and shadow, making the photos feel more immersive.

It’s perfect for anyone looking to showcase the full landscape!

A Trusty Companion in Challenging Conditions

Conditions were fine on this photoshoot - but come rain or shine I know this lens is good to go!

Landscape photography often means dealing with tricky conditions.

The lens’s weather-sealed construction provides protection against the elements, and the constant f/4 aperture ensured consistent performance across the zoom range (another bonus).

It’s a lens I know I can trust, no matter the conditions. As a photographer who mostly shoots in the harsh conditions of Scotland and the English Lake District - this reliability is something that is very important.

Final Thoughts

After using the Nikon 14-30mm f/4 S lens for over 4 years now, I’m confident in saying it’s one of the best wide-angle lenses available for landscape photography.

Its combination of versatility, image quality, and lightweight design makes it an excellent choice for capturing stunning landscapes.
