The Nikon Z7– always ready for a landscape adventure!

The Nikon Z7 - a brilliant camera!

On this adventure, I found myself once again immersed in the rugged beauty of Snowdonia National Park, North Wales. Armed with my trusty Nikon Z7 Mark I, I couldn't help but reflect on why this camera is still a fantastic choice for landscape photography!

I get asked so many questions about my camera, so I thought it was time to share my personal experience with the Z7 Mark I. Below are five reasons why I think it's the ideal camera for capturing landscapes.

1. Exceptional Image Quality with a 45.7-Megapixel Sensor

The RAW files from the Z7 are a joy to work with.

The first reason I chose the Nikon Z7 Mark I is simple—its image quality is fantastic!

With a 45.7-megapixel full-frame sensor, it captures every detail with stunning clarity. This is so useful as a landscape photographer! High-resolution images allow me to pull out all the fine details in Lightroom, without losing any of the magic.

The dynamic range is fantastic, which is crucial when shooting those bright skies and deep shadows we so often encounter in the great outdoors. This sensor has made capturing the beauty of nature easier and more enjoyable than ever!

2. Robust Build and Superior Weather Sealing

Being able to use my Nikon Z7 in pretty much all conditions is a huge plus.

One of the best things about the Z7 Mark I is how tough it is!

The camera feels solid and well-built, thanks to its magnesium alloy body. And, it’s pretty lightweight, weighing just under 675g, which makes it decent for long hikes or treks through the mountains.

The weather sealing is another standout feature. I’ve had this camera out in rain, wind, and even snow, and it has never missed a beat! The Z7 Mark I can withstand just about anything Mother Nature throws at it. You need a camera you can trust in all conditions, and this one delivers.

3. Impressive Video Capabilities at 4K UHD

I use the Z7's video features more than I thought I would!

Though landscape photography is my main focus, I also love that the Nikon Z7 Mark I is brilliant for video!

It shoots in 4K UHD at 30 frames per second, which is perfect for capturing those epic scenes for my YouTube channel. The quality of the footage is exceptional, with a level of sharpness and detail that matches its stills performance.

Plus, with my 24-200mm lens, I can easily switch between wide scenic shots and close-ups without changing lenses.

4. Outstanding Value for Money

Great value for money!

Now, let’s talk about value. Since the release of the Nikon Z7II, the original Z7 Mark I has become an absolute bargain!

You can now pick it up used for around £999, which is an incredible price for a full-frame camera of this calibre. The Z7 Mark I offers pro-level image quality without the hefty price tag.

Sure, the Z7II has a few upgrades like dual processors and a second card slot, but for landscape photographers like me, the Mark I is more than enough. It gives you everything you need at a fraction of the cost. What more could you ask for?

5. Versatile Z-Mount Lens Options

The 24-200mm lens stays on my Z7 most of the time.

Lastly, the Z7 Mark I benefits from Nikon’s versatile Z-mount lens system.

When it first came out, the lens options were a bit limited, but now there’s a whole range of Z-mount lenses to choose from! This opens up so many possibilities for different types of photography, but for landscape work, my favourite lens is the 24-200mm. It’s an absolute workhorse!

This lens stays on my camera 90% of the time. It’s perfect for both wide landscapes and zoomed-in shots, giving me the flexibility I need without carrying a heavy bag of lenses. I love the sharpness it delivers across the frame, and it’s perfect for both stills and video.

If I need a wider angle - I use my 14-30mm.

If you’re considering this camera for landscape photography, I hope this has given you some insight into why I think it’s such a brilliant choice.

The Z7 Mark I continues to impress me, and its current price makes it a fantastic option for any landscape photographer looking to step up their game. If you have any thoughts or if you’re a Z7 shooter yourself, let me know in the comments below!
